I remember having seen some “deeper” scans of “the monk at the sea” where you could very distinctly see that there is a hidden armada of boats advancing from the mist towards the monk.

I’ve looked in my own publications about Friedrich and on the internet but I couldn’t find any evidence for this.
…Which is an interesting thing in it turn. the non-visibility of a theory based on non-visibility.
